Making Our Handles
All of these handles are hand made. we are very pleased to have found a blacksmith who is able to make these handles for us. It takes a long time to source a good artisan. This product is hand forged in the very old traditional way. It is hand forged on the anvil. Anvil forging is the oldest way of producing wrought iron.
Once this handle has been forged it is hand cleaned and polished. This process now complete the handle is dipped in beeswax. Again dipping in beeswax is a very old and traditional method of treating wrought iron. The wax adheres to the surface of the iron by penetrating into the tiny holes on its surface. The wax forms a seal between the wrought iron and the air. this will prevent any excessive rust from developing. The beeswax also adds an even colour to the iron. The colour of the handle will be mainly black but may show some burnt orange areas.
You will be supplied with the correct amount of screws to install your handle. These screws will be cottage old black with a slotted domed head
