Black Slide Bolt

Our traditional black slide bolt is a rustic plain slide bolt.  It has an old curled under handle detailing and pre-drilled base plate.  This authentic wrought iron privacy lock is 4 inches in length and cranked.  The traditional cranked bolt shaft means that it is more forgiving when bolting doors and door frames that don’t quite line up.  An effective little bolt for adding a vintage feel to cupboards, toilet doors, etc.

The base plate measures 9cm by 4cm. The bolt itself is 14cm long and the cranked end is 1.5cm deep and 2cm long.

Our wrought iron black slide bolts are all individually hand forged, so they are similar but not identical.  Each piece is hand finished and given a beeswax coating.  All our hand-forged products are carefully aged.  Once installed these products will look old and authentic.

Forging

The blacksmiths are skilled artisans and share our passion for hand forged ironmongery.  Once the bolts have been forged, they are hand cleaned and hand polished then treated with natural beeswax.  The beeswax helps the wrought iron in two ways.  The first function of the wax is that it soaks into the small holes on the surface of the iron.  This allows the wax to form a thin surface coat over the bolt.  Now the iron has a protective layer helping to prevent excessive rusting.  The wax also makes the colour of the bolt more even.  The bolt will now be mainly black but may show some areas of golden brown.

Fixings

When you receive your bolt, it will have all the necessary fittings you will need.  In this case, the fittings will be screws.  The screws will be of a vintage cottage design in black with a slotted domed head.

You will notice in the picture there is an Allen Key. This is unique to us it enables you to put the bolt in any orientation. You adjust with the Allen Key to your desired position.
