Hinge front Dummy hinge
Hinge front. You are looking at our pair of Hinge front or dummy hinges. These vintage hinge fronts are in our arrowhead design. We have two other designs of these being black Fleur de Lys and penny end. These old fronts are designed to fix to doors. They will give the impression that the antique hinges are on the front of the door.
Hinge front. Firstly you should measure the width of your door. Traditionally the cottage hinge would be about half the width of the door. When you fit these rustic hinges here is a good tip. When most people fit these they set the traditional hinges at the same distance from top to bottom. This will not look right. Set the top hinge 6 inches down from the top of the door, then set the bottom hinge 9 inches up from the bottom of the door. As you are looking down to the bottom hinge it will look the same distance.
If these dummy hinges are fixed to an exterior door they will in time show a layer of rust. This is normal and will not effect the hinge fronts in any way. If however you do not want them to look natural you can always paint them. A good rub down with some wire wool will remove the bee wax. A coat of a good make of exterior rust proof paint will finish the job. Don’t forget to paint the screw heads.
We have many other hinges that have the same ends as the hinge fronts. You will be able to match these for other doors in and around your home.
We have supplied these hinge fronts to TV and film studios who have used them on there sets.
