Rustic Hinge Fronts
A pair of our rustic hinge fronts with rounded penny ends and matching fixing screws provided. vintage hinge fronts such as these are ideal for creating a rustic look to your cottage doors without having to rehang them using antique hinges. To look authentic we recommend that traditional hinge fronts cover half to two thirds the with of the door they are being fixed to. These wrought iron hinges are 12 inches or 30.5 cm in length and the penny end measures 3.2 cm across.
Our wrought iron products are all hand forged. So though similar will not be identical. Each piece is hand finished and given a beeswax coating. All our hand-forged products are carefully aged for an authentic look.
Our rustic hinge fronts are produced in a traditional blacksmiths shop. The false hinge or dummy hinges are all hand forged in the traditional way on the anvil. The hinges will show signs of where they have been forged. Once complete the dummy hinges are hand cleaned and polished. Once this procedure has been compleated the false hinges are coated with a layer of beeswax.
The beeswax is a protective coating for the hinge. This is a very old method of preserving wrought iron. The hinges are dipped in the beeswax. This does two things to the wrought iron. The first thing is that the wax will fill up the tiny holes in the iron and produce an even coating. This coating will protect the hinge from excessive rusting. Secondly, the wax will give the hinge an even colour over its length. the colours of the hinge will be from black to golden brown. As these hinges are hand made and hand dipped all the hinges will be similar but not identical.
Fixing screws will be included in with your order.
