All of our hinges are hand forged. They are made in the very old and traditional way on the anvil. We have spent a lot of time searching for a blacksmith to make these hinges for us. We are very pleased with the blacksmith that now makes the hinges for us. The blacksmith is a traditional artisan who shares our passion for top quality ironwork and also has the skill to produce it. You will be able to see this in the quality of the finished product.
Once the hinges have been forged they are hand cleaned and hand polished. The hinges are now dressed. To dress the hinges they are coated in a layer of natural beeswax. The beeswax soaks into the tiny holes on the surface of the iron. This enables it to form a complete layer over the hinge. The layer of wax now acts as a barrier between the iron and the atmosphere. This layer is airtight and will prevent the iron from rusting excessively.
