T Hinges 24″

A pair of our old iron hinges rustic tee hinges, or T hinges. These are made to give a vintage appearance and are hand made in wrought iron with rounded black penny end heads. These traditional black hinges are available in a range of sizes, and we stock other old style door furniture to match. This particular antique style pair are 24 inches in length and so suited to a substantial cottage door. We recommend the hinge length should cover half to two-thirds of the door width. Rustic fixing screws are provided, and the hinge base plates come with predrilled holes.

The rectangular hinge leaf measures 15.5 cm by 3.5 cm and the decorative hinge leaf is 56 cm long. The head of the penny measures 4.2cm wide.

Our wrought iron products are all hand forged, so though similar will not be identical. Each piece is hand finished and given a beeswax coating. All our hand-forged products are carefully aged for an authentic look.

Forging

All of our hinges are hand forged. They are made in the traditional old way by being forged on the anvil. The finished hinges will show forging marks.  When each part of the hinge is complete it is hand cleaned and hand polished. The craftsmen who make these for us are artisan blacksmiths. The dedication they have to produce fine work will show in the finished products.

Beeswax

Once the hinges are complete, they are now coated with natural beeswax. Beeswax is another traditional way of treating wrought iron. The wax does a couple of things to enhance the hinges. Firstly, the wax will soak into the tiny pores on the iron. This will form a layer of wax on the surface of the hinge. The wax will now act as an external barrier between the air and the iron. This will help to prevent excessive rusting. Secondly, the wax will give the hinge a uniform colour.
