Size
Cast iron door knob. This is a complete set for a door including a spindle bar and screws. The rose measures 6.5 cm in diameter and the knob handle itself is 4.5 cm across and protrudes 7 cm from the surface on which it is fixed.
Fitting
You will receive a pair of knobs complete with spindle and screws. If you are replacing these knobs with existing ones make sure you turn the base plate so that you do not use the old fixing holes. For new installations, you will have to cut the spindle to suit the width of the door. This can be done simply with a hacksaw. We have a large selection of other knobs and handles for you to look at on the site. Please take a browse.
History
Sometimes we are asked if we have any older designs of door handles (We are the Rustic Merchant at the end of the day). Our answer is no. There are obviously thousands of designs for door handles and door knobs, but none of them can be that old.The door knob/door handle as a door closing device was first patented in 1878 in America by Osborn Dorsey. So all designs stem from that period.
If you are looking for something older than that for holding doors closed then see our range of door latches or thumb latches. We have a good selection of these on the site in various sizes and designs.
