The rustic catch can be locked and a key is included. This catch would be opened with your right hand
These catches are handed. This means that they are only designed to open on a certain side of your window. To make this easy for you we call the latch by the hand you would normally open the window with. For instance, facing the window if you would open the latch with your left hand then you need to order a left-hand catch.
These old latches are made from cast iron. We have found a small foundry that hand casts these in the traditional way. Once the handles are cast they are hand cleaned and polished. When this process is complete the latches are dipped in hot black oil. The hot black oil has two functions. Firstly the oil seeps into the micro holes in the cast iron and forms a protective barrier on the surface this protects the catch from excessive rusting. Secondly, the oil will give the latch a more regular colour.
When your latches arrive they will have all the fittings that you need to install them properly. These fittings will be a locking key and screws. The screws will be vintage cottage type. They will be black with a slotted domed head.
We also stock matching window catches to match these latches.
