Antique hook

Our antique hook is hand forged, which means this hook was made by a blacksmith on the anvil and will show forging marks. When the hook has been forged, it is coated with natural beeswax. The beeswax was an early form of iron protection and protects the wrought iron from rust and also darkens it.

This is our 3-inch screw hook it and has many uses around the home and garden.

Installation

As a surface mounted item this hook is fairly easy to install with just a couple of points to remember. If you are installing this hook into beams, especially oak ones, it is advisable to drill a pilot hole first of approximately 3 mm. If you are installing the hook onto a wall, please be aware of water pipes and electric cables.

Uses

This is a very useful hook, and you will find many uses for it around your home and garden. I can be installed both indoors and outdoors, but if outside. after a period of time. you will notice surface rust. This is perfectly normal and is just the beeswax breaking down. This will not affect the integrity of the hook and will make it feel old and authentic.

If, however, you wish to paint it, then a good rub down with some wire wool will clean any debris from the surface and applying a coating of a good quality rust proof paint with a small brush will finish the job.
