Casting
rustic window lock. Our Tudor?window locks are hand cast in a small foundry. These locks are sand?cast.?Sand casting is one of the oldest forms of casting and dates back many thousands of years. Once cast the window lock is hand cleaned?and polished before being assembled. Once assembled the vintage lock is dipped into hot black oil. Again this is a very old method of treating cast iron. The hot oil penetrates the surface of the iron via the tiny pit holes in the surface. By doing this the oil is able to form a protective layer covering the iron. This will protect the iron from excessive rusting. The hot oil serves a second purpose it will also even out the colour of the iron giving it a more regular black finish.
Installation
When you receive your package you will have all the necessary?components supplied for a successful?installation. In this case, you will have received fixing screws. These screws will be old cottage type with a black slotted head and a domed top. We strongly recommend that you either pr drill holes for the screws or use a bradawl. This will ensure that when driven home the screws will be square to the latch plate and the screw heads will fit flush. This will make for a good firm fixing.
