This 12-inch black window stay is made from cast iron. The vintage window stay is hand forged with a black traditional monkey tail old style handle. Our black window stay has five different fixing positions and is made of antique high quality cast iron. This stay has a traditional black finish. A cottage window stay is ideal for use with our monkey tail window latches. Your stays can both be fixed to timber framed windows. The stay itself measures 28cm long, and the monkey tail is 4 cm deep.
These monkey tail window stays are hand cast in a small foundry. We have spent a long time finding small foundries that are capable of producing our products. The smiths that produce these items for us are highly skilled artisans. They follow the same ethos and passion for our products as we believe in. The stays are produced by the sand casting method. Sand casting has been undertaken for thousands of years. This method is the oldest way of producing cast iron pieces. Once the stays have been cast they are hand cleaned and hand polished. They are then assembled. Once they are assembled they are dipped in hot black oil. The hot black oil is very functional and has two purposes. Firstly the oil will penetrate into the very small hole on the surface of the iron. This will give the iron an oil surface that will prevent the stay from excessive rusting. The second benefit of the oil is that it gives the latch an even colour through its length. As these items are hand made no two pieces will be identical. The colouring of the stay will be from black to dark grey.
The window latch will arrive with all the necessary screws for you to complete your installation. The screws will be old cottage type screws. They will be black and slotted with a domed head.
