Tudor Window Stay
This 10 inches cast iron old window stay is hand forged in a traditional antique Tudor style. With five different fixing positions this old window stay is made of high quality cast iron with an old cottage black finish this window stay is ideal for use with our Tudor style window latches which can both be fixed to timber framed windows.
The stay measures 25 cm long and the handle curls up to a depth of 2cm.
This window stay is made for us in a small foundry. We have spent some time looking for people that could produce these stays for us. In the foundry, the stays are hand cast. They are cast by the very ancient method of sand casting. Sand casting as a method of producing cast iron has been around for thousands of years.once all the pieces have been moulded they are hand cleaned and polished. Once they are clean they are dipped in boiling hot oil. The hot oil will penetrate the very small pits in the iron. By doing this the oil will form a coating on the iron. This will make a form of seal that will protect the iron from excessive rust. The hot oil also gives the stay a nice even colour. The colour of the stay will be from black to dark grey.
In with your package, you will receive all the fixings you will need for the installation of the window stays. In this case, the fixings will be screws. These screws will be of a traditional cottage style they will be black with a slotted head and a domed top. These latches are fairly easy to fit but we would recommend that you first either drill a pilot hole for the screws or make a starter point with a bradawl.
